Mantras
A
mantra is simply a repetition of a phrase, a
word or a prayer. Mantras have always helped me
to find peace in times of anxiety and to find
inspiration when I feel down.
When
you think positively your nervous system sends
signals to the body to relax. When
we
think more positively we can cause chemicals to
be secreted that boost our psychological and
physical health.
A
mantra should feel personal to you and resonate
with your individual belief system. Sometimes if
you simply sit and listen the mantra that you
need will come to you. The beauty of a mantra is
that when you continually repeat that which you
need to here, your conscious and subconscious
mind will become aware of this thought and your
body will respond. The relaxation effect of
mantra can slow the heart rate, decrease blood
pressure and improve your mood.
I love
to use mantras when I exercise or practice yoga.
So often I find that the clients that I work
with do not practice positive self talk as they
exercise. If you are exercising and you think
that you are not worthy or unfit then that is
the feeling that you will have. When you have
negative emotions like this the body responds in
it's primitive nature by entering into the Fight
or Flight mode. Negative feelings can cause an
increase in Blood pressure, increase in heart
rate and a depressed mood. This will make
exercise difficult and possibly unbearable. If
you have had difficulty with exercise in the
past then ask yourself, "what was I saying to
myself?" Once you discover how to encourage
yourself as you exercise you will feel the joy
of moving your body and you'll want to stick to
your program.
Researchers continue to explore
the effects of optimism on health. The health
benefits optimism may provide are:
Decreased stress
Greater resistance to catching
the common cold
A sense of well-being and
improved health
Reduced risk of coronary artery
disease
Breathing easier if you have
chronic obstructive lung disease, such as
emphysema
Improved coping ability for women
with high-risk pregnancies
Living longer
Better coping skills

Today I
was at the Spectrum Club while Frankie was
playing at the Kid's Club. They have a yoga room
there and if I go when there aren't any classes
then I get the entire room to myself. I was
practicing heart openers which are yoga poses
that open the musculature of the chest and
fronts of the shoulders. Any time you stretch
this area the Heart Chakra is also stimulated.
The Mantra that came to me today was:
"I open
my body, my heart and my mind to the infinite
possibilities that the Universe presents me."
Try
repeating this mantra throughout the day. Repeat
it anytime you feel stuck either physically or
emotionally and see if it helps you to see the
possibilities that life has to offer you. You
can replace Universe with any word or phrase
that resonates with you such as, God, Jesus,
Life, etc. |
